The Story

All children (and even some adults) know that dolls come to life at night and begin to live their adventures. This series of musical portraits showcases some of these mysterious creatures. "La poupée académique" has a noble and very eloquent demeanor, but every now and then she forgets this and becomes friendlier. "La poupée poétique" dances to the sounds of a waltz. During the dance, her steps transform into slightly melancholy stardust. Dramatic, full of fragments and somber moments, "La poupée cruelle" is ready to frighten her own friends. The bookkeeper, "Poupée employée du bureau," is actually the sweetest of all: far from the papers in her office, she dreams of another life, and perhaps of true love. The interlude of "La poupée concise," seemingly just a joke, is in fact the structural cornerstone of the suite and a significant statement about aesthetics in miniature. "The Very Sporty Doll" runs a lot and wants to be perfect and always in shape. "The Brilliant Doll" is cheerful, very funny, full of adventurous spirit, but sometimes also wistfully yearning.
